ERS’s Food Availability data measure per capita annual supplies of several hundred food commodities moving through the U.S. marketing system.
Potatoes, tomatoes, oranges, apples and bananas are the top produce types consumed largely through products like french fries, tater tots, spaghetti and pizza sauces, and orange and apple juices.
Note that the USDA's Loss-Adjusted Food Availability — adjusts for losses from farmgate to fork — such as damaged products, spoilage, and plate waste—to more closely approximate per capita consumption.
