Nineteen Food and Agribusiness Stock Picks Based Upon Dividend Yield

KM: Savers have few options these days and are in need of both safety and yield. The previously unsexy area of agribusiness has gotten almost everyone's attention by now, even that of Meredith Whitney's. (See Meredith Whitney's Statement about Agriculture and Commodities Becoming our Next Decade's Structural Change.)

Listed in the table below are nineteen stocks which passed my screening based upon dividend yield, PEG ratios and analysts ratings. I included railroads since they are an important agricultural commodity transport method, although they are less specifically related to Ag. The list is in the order of dividend yield from largest to smallest. Buying a basket within the list would diversify risk, of course, as would timed buying in this risky and volatile time period, as I see that stocks are falling again this AM as I prepare to post this listing.

  1. imho, high-yielding utilities are a much better choice than any of these names ... less volatility too.

Why is anyone listening to Meredith Whitney anymore? She already had her 15 minutes of fame.

  3. If you want yield, here's a few names:

    Utilities: SO, PGN, AEP
    Telecom: T, VZ
    Pipelines: ENB, SE
    Tobacco: PM, MO

Even INTC is yielding over 4% now.

Best to pounce when the market is down. Wait for a dip and scoop them up.
