Map of Food Insecure Countries

source: FAO - Total: 29 countries
Shortfall in aggregate food
Widespread lack
of access
Severe localized
food insecurity

The twenty-nine food insecure nations are: Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Liberia, Niger, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Benin, Central Aftrican Republic, Chad, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Sudan, Uganda, Iraq, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Yemen, Colombia, and Haiti.

  1. It would be a more useful map if better definition of insecure and especially localised were given. It seems to be looking at one angle of insecure - (where) are the countries who are insecure because of being extreme globalised and dependent on outside sources? I assume that is the red but am surprised not more countries are not in that. I assume it is because import supply is equated with being able to produce for self but would argue they are not equal, especially in the food security lens. Again, though, lots of assumptions I need to make to understand this map.

  2. I want to thank you for all the good information you've been sharing on this bloog.
